"Mulder, we can't send him back. The future that Alex knew no longer exists," Scully said.
"Scully, some sort of future exists there, it has to be better than the one he came from. Alex will be more comfortable in his time period," Mulder replied, he did not want a young puppy dog version of Alex following them around. Not when he had his very own older and sexier Alex to love and build a future with.
"We can't take that chance, Mulder," Scully sighed. She stiffened as several agents approached their table from across the cafeteria.
"Hey, Spooky, so you were right all along," Agent Colton said, strolling toward their corner table.
"Oh great," Mulder muttered under his breath.
Colton's step faltered as he noticed the difference in Mulder's appearance. "What happened to you? You're beautiful …" he blurted out before he could stop himself.
"Really, Colton, I didn't know you were into men," Mulder replied sarcastically.
Another agent pushed Colton aside. "Mulder, we didn't come over to give you or Agent Scully a hard time, but to apologized. We were wrong about you and your X-Files," Agent Walker said, holding out his hand.
Mulder hesitated briefly, looking into Walker's eyes; then he shook the man's hand. "Thank you, Walker, it takes a big man to admit when he was wrong."
Walker laughed. "Well, it isn't hard when you've spent the day removing aliens from positions within the FBI. Right, guys?" he asked the other man standing around the small table staring opened mouth at Mulder.
"Ye..yeah, right, Johnny. Thanks, Mulder, Scully." The other men stepped forward and shook the two agents' hands, then they headed back across the cafeteria.
Mulder's hearing was more acute now, and he picked up their hushed whispers as they walked out into the hallway. He sighed, as he heard them talking about how unearthly he looked. "Scully, have I really changed that much?" he asked, picking up the chrome paper napkin dispenser and looking at his reflection.
"You still look like yourself, Mulder. You've always been extremely good-looking, only now there is a special aura about you, and your eyes look wiser," she replied diplomatically.
"I feel different, Scully. I don't fit in here any longer. Alex hasn't told me yet, but I know that he wants us to disappear and build a new life together. I didn't believe that I'd ever want to leave the FBI, but now that I have him and my quest is over except for finding Samantha…" Mulder sighed, looking at his hands.
"You're quitting?" Scully asked her eyes widened.
"I want a chance to be happy for once in my life. No more aliens. No more conspiracy. No more Spooky Mulder. Please try to understand, Scully."
Scully reached out and touched his arm. "I'm surprised, Mulder, somehow I figured you'd want to see it all the way through to the end. This was your fight. Your life's work. Can you really leave it up to others to wrap up?"
"I'm leaving it to Skinner and you, if you still want to stay on, but I would understand if you didn't. Scully, you've lost so much because of me and the X-Files."
"Mulder, what I lost was never your fault, that lays at the feet of our enemies. You're right. We won. It is the perfect time to get out and let others finish what we started. I may stay on a bit longer to help, but you and Alex need to leave now. You are going to tell me where you end up … I would like to be able to visit," she said, putting on a brave face. Scully never thought that Mulder would disappear from her life, he was her best friend, her rock.
"Yes, Scully, we will let a few of our closest friends know. I'm not really sure where we'll be going yet. I'll leave that up to Alex, he's pretty good at going into hiding." Mulder smiled toward the door as his lover and Skinner entered the cafeteria.
"Hey, my ears are buzzing you must be talking about me, babe," Krycek said, bending down and kissing Mulder tenderly on the lips, their kiss lingered, deepening. It was late and there was no one left in the cafeteria except them.
Skinner cleared his throat and the two men broke apart. "Agents, we're going out to celebrate our victory."
"Where?" Scully asked.
"O'Gara's. The first round is on me," Skinner offered.
Mulder stood, and moved to stand closer to Krycek. "Sounds good, I could really use a drink. However, do you think we could stop at the liquor store instead and bring it back to my apartment. I could really use a shower and a change of clothes, and I really don't want to be around crowds."
Skinner looked into Mulder's eyes and was surprised to see the fear in their depths. He knew then that Krycek hadn't told him the whole truth about what happened to Mulder onboard that spaceship. "Sure, Agent Mulder. It might be better anyway. We'd have an easier time avoiding the press. Why don't you and Krycek go ahead, Scully and I will stop at the liquor store and we'll meet you back at your apartment."
Mulder smiled with relief. "Yes, sir." Mulder quickly pulled Alex out of the cafeteria. "Where's your younger self?"
"He and Eryk went hunting for the morph. Fox, we need to do something about him because I'm not about to share you even with myself, and I know how obsessed I was with you, even at that age."
"Scully doesn't think we should send him back, and I feel weird hurting his feelings. It feels like I'm hurting you, Alex. I'm at a lose for what we should do." Mulder climbed into the driver seat of their rental. "I don't want to think about him right now. Let's celebrate first, then we can spend the next week making love and sleeping in late. We'll deal with our problems later."

Krycek wondered if he could convince Mulder to leave the FBI and go to England or California with him. Maybe after a night of hot sex he could catch his lover at a weakened moment.
"I told Scully that I was quitting the FBI," Mulder said quietly, stopping at a red light, he glanced over at Krycek.
"Are you reading my thoughts, Fox?"
"No, I wouldn't invade your privacy that way. I love you, Alex, and I want to start a new life with you somewhere where we can live undisturbed together. Money shouldn't be a problem for awhile, I have the money my father left me and I could find work." Mulder glanced over at Krycek to see his reaction. Although he knew Alex wanted him to quit, he still was taken aback by the smug grin on his lover's lips.
"What, Alex?"
"My former employer left me millions in his will, and properties in Virginia, California, and England. If we invest it properly we should be able to live off the interest." Krycek smiled, pleased with himself at the look of happiness on Mulder's face. He relaxed against the seat and reached over resting his hand on Mulder's leg. He watched as Mulder wove in and out of traffic. "Fox, I have a fantasy," he said, stroking up and down his lover's thigh, coming closer and closer to Mulder's groin.
Mulder glanced over at Alex as he pulled off the exit ramp. He was having a hard time focusing on driving. "What's that, Alex."
"I've always dreamed about making love to you on your leather sofa."
"Is that all. I do have a bed you know."
"We can make love there too, afterwards." Krycek's hand had slowly crept up until it was kneading Mulder's groin.
"If we don't get killed in a car crash first," Mulder gasped as the blood pooled in his groin, he whipped the car around the corner and into a parking place in front of his apartment building and threw the car in park. He then grabbed the front of Alex's T-shirt and pulled him into a rough kiss. "If we hurry we could make love in the shower before our guests arrive," he said breathlessly, resting his forehead against Alex's, he gazed lovingly into those jeweled green eyes.
"Yeah, I want you to fuck me, Fox. I want to feel the delicious ache while I'm drinking with Skinner."
"Alex."
"Hmm?"
"I love you," Mulder smiled, kissing him. They separated reluctantly and climbed out of the car.
The two men hurried into the apartment building and missed the menacing pair of eyes watching them from across the street.

Mulder sucked on the back of Alex's neck as he drove his cock into his lover's tight opening. "God, you are so tight, baby," he murmured, pinching and twisting Alex's nipples.
Alex playfully clamped his anal muscles down on Mulder's cock, and felt Mulder's arms tighten around his wet body as his lover shuddered and groaned. "Oh fuck, Alex, so good."
"Fox, harder. Fuck me harder," Alex ordered, delighting in feeling of fullness as the large cock thrust deeply into him, filling and stretching him. Fox's cock. He smiled, bracing himself against the shower wall for support. They belonged together, and no one would ever be able to separate them.
The water and their moans echoed throughout the small bathroom and they didn't hear the apartment door as it was forced open. The morph walked down the hallway and the smell of sex made him instantly hard. He stepped into the bathroom and watched the shapes behind the shower curtain move together as one.
Mulder exploded into his lover, his semen spurted in several hot bursts, while his hand jerked Alex to completion. The younger man's come splattered against the shower wall. They collapsed still locked together onto the porcelain surface of the bathtub as water rain down upon their bodies. Mulder nuzzled Krycek's neck as he pulled him onto his lap, not wanting to pull out of him yet. They both jumped when the shower curtain was ripped off its hooks and a very angry morph glared down at them.
"Did you think that I would leave without you, hybrid? You belong to me. Now and forever."
"No. Get keep away from us," Mulder growled. His eyes searching for a weapon, while his arms tightened around Alex's struggling body, protectively keeping his body between Alex and the morph.
"Fox, let me go!"
"You cannot protect him, my pet. He dies here and now." The morph flipped the plam open and the cold metal pick flashed menacingly as the morph reached down and tried to pull Fox away so he could reach Krycek. His hand slipped off Fox's wet flesh and he reached for a better hold.
A loud blast filled the air as a bullet ripped through the base of the morph's skull. He toppled over the tub on top of Alex and Fox. Mulder pushed him off and looked at Scully who stood in the doorway like an avenging angel holding her gun with both hands. Skinner was behind her with his gun drawn.
"Nice shooting, Tex," Mulder quipped then started shaking.
"Is it dead?" Skinner asked, uncertainly with his gun trained on the morph's body as it started to dissolve.
Krycek pulled out of Mulder's arms and off his cock as Scully adverted her eyes. He looked down at the morph's body that was quickly turning into a pool of green slim. "Luckily, if Scully had only wounded him, you'd both would have died of the retro-virus." He helped Fox shakily to his feet. "Life with you, sweetheart, is never boring."
Mulder wrapped his arms around Alex. "God, I think I'm going to be sick."
They stood under the shower spray as it washed the morph's green fluid off their bodies and down the drain. Skinner came over with two towels, carefully avoiding stepping in the puddle of goo. Alex turned off the shower and Skinner handed them the towels. "I'll be in the living room with Scully. I'll contact someone from the EPA to clean up this mess."
"Thanks, sir," Mulder said softly, wrapping the towel around his waist, he stepped with care out of the bathtub.
Krycek followed Mulder into his bedroom, keeping very close to his lover just in case.
"I have some sweatpants that should fit you, Alex." Mulder searched absently through his dresser drawers and pulled out two pairs of socks and two pairs of boxers.
"He's dead, Fox."
"Alex, he almost killed you, and there was nothing I could do to protect you."
"He's dead," he repeated, hugging Mulder from behind. "And you did protect me, Fox. If you weren't shielding my body with yours, he would have killed me before Scully could have shot him."
"Yeah," Mulder said softly, turning around in his arms.
"Yeah," Krycek replied, holding him tighter. They shared a tender kiss that promised much more for later.
Mulder sighed and rested his forehead against Krycek's. "I really could use that drink now."
"Me too."
They dressed silently and wandered out into the living room holding hands. Scully smiled at them. They did make a beautiful couple, she was happy that her partner had found someone who loved and cared for him.
Skinner handed them each a glass of wine. "To the X-Files," he toasted.
"To a long and alien free life," Mulder quipped as he clicked Skinner's glass.

"Eryk, we're not going to find the hunter, let's go back to D.C.," young Alex complained as they searched the areas around Central Park.
Eryk stopped in front of a bar with loud music playing inside. He watched the men going inside, many of whom were dressed in skin-tight leather. "I'm thirsty, Alex, let's have a drink and something to eat. Then we can go back to D.C." He counted the money that Skinner had given him.
Alex's eyes grew wide when they stepped inside. He had never been inside such a place before. Men were dancing with each other and he spotted a couple making out in the corner. "Eryk, isn't the past wonderful?" he said excitedly as several good looking men gazed admiringly at him.
"Yeah, especially with the tall, bald, and gorgeous Walter Skinner in it," Eryk said as he walked over to the bar.
"Hey, what can I get you two?" the bartender asked.
Eryk looked uncertainly at the rolls of bottles. He felt totally out of his element, glancing down the bar, he said, "We'll have what he's having."
The bartender filled two mugs from the beer tap and slid the glasses down to them. Eryk paid the bartender and they carried their drinks to a table next to the dance floor and sat drinking and watching the men on the floor.
"Hi, mind if I join you?" A young man a few years older than Alex stood smiling down at him. The man had spotted Alex when he walked in and couldn't take his eyes off him.
Alex smiled up at him seductively, through thick, lashes. Nice body, good-looking, he appraised, studying the man openly. "Sure, have a seat."
"Thanks. My friends call me Mac," he said, sliding into the chair and scooting it over closer to Alex.
"I'm Alex and this is Eryk."
Mac looked Eryk over. "Are you two an item?"
"No. We only work together," Alex said, smiling as the young man's thigh pressed hotly up against his. He liked this time-period. No overlord, no slavers, and no aliens. Just beautiful men and women.
"I'd like to get to know you better, Alex. Maybe we could go somewhere a little more private, that is, if your friend doesn't mind?"
"No. I don't mind. Alex, I'm going to be flying back to D.C., I'll see you later. I'll be staying at Skinner's place," Eryk said, downing the rest of his beer.
"Walter Skinner's putting us up?" Alex asked absently, staring into Mac's blue eyes.
"Not us. Me. But Skinner doesn't know it yet," the handsome resistance leader said, winking at Alex and heading for the door.
